PEDESTRIAN KNOCK-DOWN
Protect your legal claim by consulting our attorneys early
Pedestrian knock-down injuries are eligible for financial compensation.
November 24, 2008 – The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) recently reported an impressive 13 percent drop in the number of pedestrians killed in traffic accidents since 1997, which suggests that pedestrian safety advice distributed by local city governments and schools has made pedestrians more alert to traffic hazards.
But that percentage drop is not much of a comfort given that today, on average, a pedestrian is killed in a traffic accident every 113 minutes and injured every 8 minutes. Most pedestrian fatalities in 2007 occurred in urban areas (73%), at non-intersection locations (77%); in normal weather conditions (90%), and at night (67%).
For 2007, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reported that 4,654 pedestrians died in traffic crashes, and approximately 70,000 pedestrians were seriously injured.
Non-vehicular pedestrian knock-down
Besides traffic incidents, thousands of pedestrians are also injured every year in non-vehicular accidents. Causes vary for these injuries, and include poor property maintenance, sidewalk obstacles or dangerous debris on pedestrian pathways and sidewalks. Whatever the cause of the pedestrian knock-down, a person may recover financial compensation for the injury if the accident was the fault of another party.

Head-on car collision kills both drivers
December 10, 2007
GROVELAND - Two Lake County men were killed in a head-on collision on County Road 33 near Groveland Saturday night, the Florida Highway Patrol said.
About 8:05 p.m., Gregory Chapman, 40, of Mascotte, was driving a 1987 Honda Accord south on C.R. 33 near Smith Road as Jonny Romero Garcia, 31, of Leesburg, was traveling north in a 1989 Chevy Tahoe.
Chapman's Honda crossed the center line and hit the front of Garcia's Tahoe.
The crash caused the Tahoe to overturn and eject Garcia.
Both men were killed in the crash.
Troopers are investigating to determine whether alcohol was a factor.
Chapman was wearing a seat belt but Garcia was not, the FHP said.

On Dec. 26, David McDuffie was driving a Chevrolet pickup truck on County Road 448A near Lake Jem when the truck overturned into a drainage ditch full of water.
